We love seeing our patients find relief from pain and regain their quality of life—especially when they’re able to avoid surgery and opt for a natural, healing-focused solution. Recently, one of our patients came to Longmont Orthopedics with a long history of knee pain. Their experience with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy was truly transformative, and we’re excited to share their story.

Years of Knee Pain, Especially walking down stairs

This person had been struggling with chronic knee pain for years, particularly when going up and down stairs. It was one of those situations where the pain had become a constant companion, something they were learning to live with—until they found themselves here, ready to try something different.

They had explored various options in the past, from over-the-counter pain relief to physical therapy, but nothing seemed to provide lasting relief. That’s when they heard about PRP injections and decided to give it a try.

The PRP Experience: How It Worked

When they came to our office, Dr. Jani walked them through exactly how PRP works, explaining that the goal was to heal the damaged tissue instead of just masking the pain. Here’s what the process looked like:

  • Step 1: Dr. Jani drew a small amount of blood from the patient’s arm.

  • Step 2: The blood was placed in a centrifuge, where it was spun at high speeds to separate out the platelet-rich plasma—the “good stuff” packed with growth factors that promote healing.

  • Step 3: Dr. Jani then injected this concentrated PRP directly into the patient’s knee, right at the source of the problem. The idea was to stimulate the body’s natural healing process, targeting the damaged tissue to repair and regenerate.

The patient appreciated that the entire procedure was quick and straightforward. No need for surgery or long recovery times—just a natural solution that worked with their body’s own healing powers.

The Recovery: A Few Days of Discomfort, Then Improvement

After the injection, the patient did experience a bit of swelling and pain for about three days. This is completely normal as the PRP goes to work, and it’s a sign that the healing process is kicking in.

But after that initial discomfort, they began to notice a difference. Each day, the knee felt a little bit better. The patient was thrilled to find that the constant pain they had been living with for years was gradually fading. They could go up and down stairs without that sharp, familiar pain.

In their words, their “bad knee” had become their “good knee.”

Why PRP Was the Right Choice

Our patient is so glad they chose PRP because it addressed the root of the problem. Unlike other treatments that simply mask the pain, PRP helped heal the damaged tissue. And perhaps even more importantly, PRP allowed them to avoid surgery, which would have required a much longer recovery time and potential complications.

By choosing PRP, they were able to find a natural, non-surgical solution that fit their lifestyle and gave them the relief they had been searching for.
